I washed 2 different silk scarves. One by hand and the other in the machine.
First scarf - Hermes.
First scarf - Hermes.
Bucket with tepid water and 2 capfuls delicate wash (as per directions on bottle)
Swooshed around and soaked for 30 minutes.
Rinsed well in the sink then hung to dry.
Laying flat is good too.
Second scarf was a Ralph Lauren silk.
I put in a large mesh bag and put in the machine. Delicate cycle with cold water.
I added a few other delicate items in the same color family and added 3 caps of detergent. (I didn't use all 4 since the load was so small).
After the cycle was finished I removed and hung to dry.
Both items were dry within an hour and totally perfect. I gave a quick steam before I folded and put away.

Shocking to see somebody trying to wash a scarf, an Hermes one no less--with success! Awesome job!
I wash my Hermes scarves all the time. I recommend rolling up in a large towel ( like a jelly roll) and squeeze out the excess water. That way no chance of color bleeding. Finally, I iron up to the hems just before the scarf is completely dry. Otherwise, you might get wrinkles that are difficult to get out.

I wash all my scarves - and never had a problem - to avoid bleeding I add a sheet of shout color catcher to the soapy water and rinse water - The problem with dry cleaning is all the chemical stuff they use which really destroys the silk after awhile...Baby shampoo is a good washing liquid to use - and do NOT let the scarf sit for 30mns in the water ! just move it around a few times, if the water really gets dirty, do it over, and then rinse rinse rinse, you can add a little white vinegar in the last rinse...then roll it up in a towel and iron right away, making sure you don't go over the "roulotte" (edges) -
Wow that scared me!! Glad to see there is an at-home option to drycleaning those silk scarves. I was wondering if there is any type of at-home steamer you might recommend for silks? I was thinking of purchasing the small Joy Mangano one...
