We are delighted to announce that The Laundress has landed in Britain and is now exclusively available at the impossibly cool Society Club in London's famed SoHo district. The Society Club is the brainchild of true arbiters of culture, with Carrie Karnia (book publishing rockstar) and Babette Kulik (fashion industry luminary) occupying an eclectic and comforting space that defies description. Part intellectual salon, with dashes of bookstore, art gallery and curio shoppe, the space deftly houses three canine companions along with a 1940's chandelier, and the proprietors have a certain knack for tracking down limited edition, out of print or just plain hard to find books.
Here's how they describe the endeavor on their blog (which is filled with fun and you should absolutely check out) :
The Society Club is an independent bookstore with an eclectic mix of
new, used and first editions as well as an art space/gallery, currently
playing host to the photography of Derek Ridgers. We carry London
honey, Laundress Cleaning Products, vintage hotel ashtrays, Constance
Spry vases and a fine selection of the finest Tunnock’s treats. We’ll
also serve you coffee, tea, cake, cookies and crumpets (with homemade
marmalade) while you have a browse. We host really interesting events,
including book launches, poetry readings, workshops and amazing photo
exhibits.
So, next time you find yourself in Soho (London, not New York) swing by and see what they have going on. You can tell them the Laundress sent you.
