The hardworking ladies and gentlemen behind the Laundress took some time out recently to visit local Italian mega-mart Eataly and enjoy an after hours libation at the rooftop beer garden Birreria.
For the uninitiated, Eataly is Mario Batali's New York City wonderland of Italian culinary goodness, offering anything and everything you can think of - house-made pastas, cured meats and cheeses, fresh produce, authentic Italian pantry items, delicious sweets and tasty coffee and tea... to name a few. There's several restaurants on the premises and, as the website states, they cook what they sell and sell what they cook.
A good time was had by the whole Laundress team - the perfect way to end the day on one of these gorgeous August evenings!

Our rockstar Sales Manager Erica Vendettuoli recently visited Bloomingdale's in Manhattan to give their Cashmere Shop Sales Associates a demonstration with the Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo. Upon hearing about the visit, I was filled with questions - she was kind enough to answer a couple of them below.
What does that training entail exactly, and why now?
I generally visit our stores in New York quarterly. During a training I will cover a brief history of the company (why&how we were founded), educate the staff on our products in the store's inventory, and will instruct the staff on how to use it - sometimes I will even do a demo!
For this training with Bloomingdale's, I met with the sales associates in the cashmere department, as they will now be selling our Wool & Cashmere Shampoo. The images are of the demonstration I did - hand washing a cashmere scarf.
What's the purpose of these visits?
This is to help the associates with selling The Laundress products. I will always hand out samples of the product for the staff to try; after the sales people have the opportunity to try our products, it becomes much easier to for them to speak to clients about the Laundress.
Do you do trainings like this often?
I visit all New York stores quarterly- to meet new staff members, introduce new products, and sometimes I will even work on the floor directly with a store's clients. For stores not located in New York, I typically will set up a training conference call towards the same purposes.
What sort of reaction do you get from salespeople - do you ever encounter any surprise that cashmere is best NOT dry cleaned?
Most salespeople are very surprised when I tell them it’s actually better to wash their silk and wool/cashmere items - of course, they all agree that they do not like dry cleaning!

This week's Tip comes from a very inventive customer! We've told you about how amazing the Delicate Wash is for pampering your intimates, but did you know that it works on things aside from your naughty nighties? We received this bright idea recently from a crafty customer - here's what she tells us :
Just wanted to let you know of a wonderful new use I discovered for your Delicate Wash. We have beautiful slate floors in our kitchen that are not sealed. Finding a cleaning product for these floors was getting very challenging until I read an article that suggested using a delicate fabric wash. We are now using the Delicate Wash…1/4 cup..and the floors have never looked better. Not only does it work great on our clothes but it’s perfect for our delicate unsealed slate.
Enjoy all of your products but this has been our best latest discovery.
Many Thanks, Sharon!
We love to hear about new and inspired ways to use our products, email us if you've had a similar flash of brilliance!

Gwen is in good company in this recent article from the New York Times T Magazine - she is quoted along with a former curator at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute, the fashion set's resident dry cleaning expert and the Downton Abbey costume designer whose rendering of early twentieth century aristocratic British wardrobes seems to be the inspiration behind this sartorial season's period preoccupation.
With some pop culture, a little bit of history and an inquiry into the great unanswered question of life (How DO you clean that?), it's the perfect article to get you through the mid afternoon lull. Cheers!

Being a professional Laundress can be a tough job - especially when there are so many questions to be answered. But a laundress has got to do what a laundress has got to do - and our Laundress ladies do it with pleasure. Lindsey was asked by the Houston Chronicle about the Do's & Dont's of laundering linens for a piece they wrote on the importance of investing in your home linens.
Racked had a different sort of question for Lindsey - this one not about laundry at all!
Go to Racked to see Lindsey's favorite shop in New York City.
And finally, a bit of a cautionary tale. The National mentioned the Laundress in a story about the rise of knitwear and - it's becoming a theme - the importance of taking care of your investments to prolong the life of your clothing. Unfortunately, they also recommended dry cleaning, which we do not.
The Laundress provides all the products you need to clean your knitwear - whether you have a machine or not - safely and effectively at home. There is no need to visit the dry cleaners - check out our site, or better yet, send your hopeless cases to our Washing Service, instead!
Oh! One last thing...space is almost gone for The Laundress SKILLSHARE Classes this summer - 2 different dates. GO HERE for more information on the class, and GO HERE to sign up!

Our Washing Service gets rave reviews and repeat customers - probably because it's the perfect remedy for that persistent stain or reinvigorating a family heirloom. We receive notes of thanks regularly...here's one!
Each order is returned with a handwritten note from the Laundress Ladies themselves.
Go Ahead - Pamper yourself and your finery with some Laundress love.

You've seen Gwen's Tale from London describing this white tee's emergency operation. Today we follow her to the next appointment - at The Society Club Soho! (Don't Remember? Here's a Refresher!)
After an eventful lunch at Dover Street Market's Rose Cafe, I met with Babette at the Society Club Soho where some of our Laundress products are available. Babette has curated this cozy and inviting space with an eclectic mix of items - the kind of place that exercises your willpower to not take home everything. Unfortunately for me, but luckily for my bank account, I didn't have room in my luggage for all the things I wanted!
The Society Club is, first and foremost, a bookstore - one with a succinct mix of new, used and first edition works.
I took advantage of the opportunity to ask Babette for some book recommendations for my upcoming holiday. Here's what she had for me :
